Nicotine dependence is a condition where your body and brain become used to regular nicotine exposure. Over time, this can lead to cravings and withdrawal symptoms when nicotine levels drop, making it difficult to stop smoking without support.
A quit plan is a structured approach to reducing or stopping smoking. It may include setting a quit date, identifying triggers, planning strategies for cravings and, where appropriate, discussing medical treatment options for harm reduction with a doctor.
Triggers are situations, emotions or routines that prompt the urge to smoke, such as stress, coffee breaks or social settings. Identifying triggers can help you prepare practical strategies to manage them.
Yes. A consultation can help you understand your level of nicotine dependence and explore options, even if you’re still deciding on your next steps.
Common withdrawal symptoms can include irritability, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, increased appetite, low mood and strong cravings. Symptoms vary between individuals and are usually most noticeable in the first few weeks after reducing or stopping smoking.
