FAQs

What is the contraceptive pill?

The contraceptive pill is a daily medication that prevents pregnancy by regulating hormones. It comes in different types because everybody responds differently. Some people also use the pill for cycle control, skin support, or period symptoms, but whether it’s right for you depends on your health and history.

Can I choose which pill I get?

You’re welcome to share your preferences or past experiences with contraception during your consultation. Your doctor will consider this information when reviewing your medical history and will recommend an option if it is clinically suitable and safe for you. Prescriptions are always provided at the doctor’s discretion.

How effective is the pill?

The contraceptive pill is considered a highly effective method of preventing pregnancy when used correctly. Effectiveness can vary depending on the type of pill and how consistently it’s taken.

Your doctor will explain how to take it correctly and what to expect, so you can feel confident you're using it safely and effectively.

What if the pill doesn’t feel right for me?

If you're experiencing issues or feel the pill isn’t the right fit, you can book a follow-up consultation to discuss this with your Candor doctor. They’ll review your experience and talk through whether an adjustment or a different option may be appropriate for you.

How much does the pill cost?

Our standard pricing for contraception consults is $19. Prices for treatment plans vary depending on the medication selected and frequency of refills. This information will be provided to you after your GP reviews your assessment form.

Do I need my blood pressure checked?

Yes. Certain types of contraceptive pills require up-to-date blood pressure readings to ensure they're safe and appropriate for you. If you don’t have a recent result, you can usually have your blood pressure checked for free at most local pharmacies or by your regular GP.
